Stephen Axelsen was born in Sydney. He has been working as an illustrator and writer of children's books since 1974. He lives by the beach in northern New South Wales with his wife, cat, budgie and dog. He works mostly in humour and fantasy, and enjoys building garden walls and reading children's books.
